5th bilateral russian-french workshop

on Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies

Nanosciences and nanotechnologies are becoming today the leading fields of Russian science. Collaboration of Russian and French scientists in this field has quite a long history. One of the efficient tools of this collaboration is an annual bilateral scientific workshop "Nanosciences and nanotechnologies"

Therefore these 3 subjects, mentioned above:

- carbon and semiconductor nanostructures (including carbon nanotubes and graphene)

- spintronics and nanomagnetism

- nanophotonics

will be included in the program of the 5th bilateral russian-french workshop on Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies.

The workshop will be held in Moscow on December, 1-2, 2008 in the Column hall of the Lebedev Physical Institute, RAS, in Moscow.

The seminar will be organized on the base of A.M. Prokhorov General Physics Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences (GPI RAS), where the high level researches are developing in all three directions:

carbon nanotubes - laboratory of Dr. E.D. Obraztsova,

nanophotonics - laboratory of Prof. S.G. Tikhodeev,

spintronics and nanomagnetism - laboratories of Prof. A.K. Zvezdin and Dr. E.T. Kulatov.

Certainly, these 3 directions do not completely exhaust the field "Nanosciences and nanotechnologies", but they represent really breaking directions in this field, where France and Russia are among the leading countries. They have the priority and pioneering results in all these three fields. For instance, the Nobel prize 2007 has been awarded to Prof. Albert Fert (Orsay, France) for his achievements in the field of spintronics.

Moreover, the seminar program is quite flexible and it is is opened for introduction of new subjects in the future. A special attention will be paid to investigations of young scientists (below 35 years old). They will present their results during "Young Scientist Session".

One of the main results of the seminar should be the establishment of new contacts and strengthening of the present cooperation between:

- ONERA (Shatilion, France) & GPI RAS and Catalyst Institute SB RAS (Novosibirsk),

- Montpellier (France) & Rostov-on-Don State University,

- Institute of Materials Researches (Nantes, France) & Institute of Inorganic Chemistry SB RAS (Novosibirsk),

- LPN CNRS & Ioffe PTI, GPI RAS & Kurnakov Institute of Inorganic Chemistry RAS, etc.
