Temperature sensors, Calculator and Timer as well as other electronic devices with liquid crystal display have been made without batteries.  Single strike to the piezoelement that is installed into these devices provide at least one minute of operation, then one need to strike again. But in most cases one minute is more then enough to complete measurement or calculation.
