The tenth annual International Laser Physics Workshop (LPHYS'01) will be held from July 3 to July 7, 2001 in Moscow, Russia, at the Hotel Uzkoe .  LPHYS'01 continues a series of Workshops held in Dubna 1992, Moscow/Volga river tour 1993, New York 1994, Moscow/Volga river tour (jointly with NATO SILAP Workshop) 1995, Moscow 1996, Prague 1997, Berlin 1998, Budapest 1999, and Bordeaux 2000.
Special sessions of LPHYS'01 will be dedicated to the eighty-fifth anniversary birthday of Nobel Price Winner Alexander M. Prokhorov and the fortieth anniversary of creation of the first laser.
The total number of participants is expected to be about 200. In the past, participation was typically from over 30 countries.

        The Workshop materials accepted by the Steering and Advisory & Program Committees (plenary, invited and contributed) will be published in the international journal Laser Physics. The total length of manuscript, including figures, tables, and references, is limited to twelve pages.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE UZKOYF HOTEL

The Uzkoye, a new comfortable hotel for 156 guests was built some time ago to the design of M.F. Markovsky, and S.P. Buritsky, Merited Architects of the Russian Federation, South West of Moscow near the old Uzkoye Estate. This higher A category hotel accommodates scientists from all over the world coming to Moscow to take part in symposia and conferences.
     This corner of Moscow has an eventful history. The name Uzkoye comes from the name of an old village known since the late 16th century when this place was a tract of wasteland owned by Prince Afanasy Gagarin and Pyotr Ochin-Pleshcheyev. After 1629, Boyar Maxim Streshnev, a new owner of the land, settled peasants here and built his manor house and the Church of the Holy Virgin.
     In the late 17th century, the estate became the property of Tikhon Streshnev, an associate of Peter the Great. In 1698, a new church was built on an elevation where the old church had stood. Striking one with its majestic appearance, this stone Church of the Holy Virgin of Kazan has survived to this day, began to be built on a raised spot to replace the old church. The church has recently been restored and now its gilt central dome, surrounded by four silvery double-tiered furrets facing the four cardinal points, shines brightly in the sun.
     Legend has it that during the retreat of the French army from Moscow by the Kaluga Road in 1812, Napoleon I watched the movement of his troops from the belfry of the church. From 1746 to 1812, the estate belonged to the Golitsyns and later, from 1826 to 1852, to the Tolstoys. Rebuilt in the 18th century, it consists of the manor house (reconstructed by architect S.K. Rodionov in 1880), outbuildings, and stables. The estate is surrounded by an old linden park with a chain of late 18th century terraced ponds. The last owners of the Uzkoye Estate were the Princes Trubetskoy.

The conference hall is on the first floor. The restaurant, which is on the first floor, is open from 12:00 to 24:00 with a break from 16:00 to 18:00. The bar, which is on the ground floor, is open from 8:00 to 24:00 with a break from 10:00 to 18:00.
